Why, if according to atheists there is no god, do they spend HOURS and DAYS discussing god and religion?

Is it because they are truly atheists and they are trying to "convert" others to their form of religion, or is it just because they have violated the laws of god and now they appease their enormous guilt through the denial of his existence in a futile attempt to avoid the final judgement they so fear?
