Why do oceanic islands have such unusual inhabitants?

I agree that C is the best answer. The situation is more complex that just this, though. Island populations tend to be fairly small, so genetic drift happens more easily. Also, because the population is small, any amount of selection tends to result in faster and more dramatic change than would be observed in a larger population.
